The Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Muhammad (Matawallen Maradun) has asked citizens of the State to remain calm, and have confidence in his administration’s resolve to ensure the protection of their lives and property.
The Governor said in a statement in Gusau that the unfortunate incidence in Karaye Community in Gummi Local Government Area where 14 people were killed and 10 injured was engineered a long time ago in the Gummi Emirate.
According to him “but for the resilience of the people at that time and the swift action of security operatives which averted a bloody face-off. Security reports strongly indicate culpability of some disgruntled and discredited politicians who were rejected by the people of Zamfara but are now bent on politcising governance”.
He further said “Government has noted the sporadic attempt to scuttle the peace in recent times and has done everything possible to address the situations without upsetting the apple cart. But this continued attempt to rubbish our hard earned peace and harmony will no longer be treated with kids gloves”.
Governor Muhammad was categorical in his submission that the plot by what he calls ‘enemies of the state’ in their attempt to wind the clock of progress backwards will be resisted.
“We cannot afford to forget the hell on earth we’ve gone through in the recent past where we could not sleep with our eyes closed. We could not go to the market anymore. We could not ply our roads anymore. We could not go to the farm anymore. In our houses, we could not sleep. But all now is history as those living in the Bush are now surrendering their weapons and re-integrating.
“We must therefore, join our hands to expose and bring to book the enemies of our peace living among us”.
While the process of peace and reconciliation is still on course Governor Matawalle assured that his administration will not fold its arms and allow sabateurs to comprise the hard earned peace so far achieved in the state.
“Both the Fulani and Yan-sa-kai meant their words when they understood our honesty in the pursuit for genuine reconciliation. But there are those who are not happy with our initiative and are bent on sabotaging this godly effort for reasons best known to them”.
