A suspected yahoo ‘boy’, Obeta John who was alleged to have killed his girlfriend over money issue, has been arrested by the law enforcement agency.

The 27-year-old John was arrested on Tuesday by men of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Idowu Buhari, an HND 1 Mass Communication student of Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade.
SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Police Public Relations Officer (Officer), Ogun State Command, stated this in a press release, AZ:5310/OGS/PRO/VOL.7/179. 30/11/2022.
The suspect, he stated, was arrested following a distress call received at the Ode-Remo Divisional Headquarters.
Obeta John, who was said to have admitted to been an internet fraudster, claimed that one of his clients paid some amount into the bank account of his deceased girlfriend but which she refused to remit to him.

He further claimed that an argument over the said money led to a scuffle between the two of them and eventually resulted in the death of his girlfriend.
According to the report, the suspect, who resides at No 3, Mojubade Compound, Eredu Ishara, locked himself and his girlfriend inside his room and started beating the girl and hitting her head against the wall.
SP further stated in the release that all efforts made to persuade him to open the door in order to rescue his girlfriend proved abortive.

“Upon the distress call, the DPO, Ode-Remo Division, CSP Fasogbon Olayemi, quickly led his men to the scene where they met the victim in the pool of her blood after forcing the door opened.
“The victim was quickly rushed to the State Hospital, Ishara, but was pronounced dead by doctor on duty.
“The suspect, an indigene of Enugu State, was promptly arrested and taken to custody.
“On interrogation, the suspect, Obeta John, informed the police that he is an internet fraudster, and that certain amount of money from one of his clients was paid into the account of his deceased girlfriend which she refused to relinquish to him.
“He stated further that it was the argument over the said money that led to scuffle between them which eventually led to the death of the girl,” Oyeyemi added.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
