The status of the Acting Chairman of the EFCC has been further clarified by the Presidential panel set up to investigate Ibrahim Magu.
The panel is led by Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari.
Reports had gone on on Monday about Magu being arrested by the DSS, but the agency in a statement by its Spokesperson, Peter Afunanya falsefied the story.
At the moment, Magu’s interrogation seems to work against him with doubts raised in his handling of the corruption war of the Buhari Administration.
While the Panel is reviewing the allegations against him, submitted by the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, Magu is likely to face dismissal.
“Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu on Monday, July 6, 2020, honoured an invitation by a Presidential Panel reviewing the activities of the EFCC, at the Banquet Hall wing of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
“He was served the invitation to the Panel, while on his way to the Force Headquarters, Abuja for a meeting.
“The EFCC’s boss was neither arrested nor forced to honour the invitation. A member of a legal team from the EFCC is also with him on the Panel”.
Some of the allegations Malami leveled against Magu is the diversion of N20bn believed to be funds recovered from looters, for personal use.
Magu also allegedly owns choice properties in the United States and Dubai and lives in an apartment in Abuja that is not being paid for by the federal government. The apartment according to the allegations against him costs N20million a year.
Control TV reported that the Presidency has set up a panel to investigate the activities of the Acting Chairman of the anti-graft agency.
Should the panel find Magu guilty of the allegations Malami leveled against him, he may face a sack from his position as Acting Chairman of the EFCC.
Magu has been in acting capacity since 2015 after the 8th Senate led by Bukola Saraki refused to confirm him on several occasions.
