The issue of Out-Of-School-Children in Nigeria has been a significant focus of my mandate and I thank the Senate President for finding me worthy to lead this all important committee of Basic and Secondary Education. An important segment of the government that is charged with addressing this humongous problem. I along with my Committee Members, together with the entire 10th Senate will take steps towards addressing the pressing concern of numerous Nigerians in this light.
This effort has collectively led the Senate to unanimously agree to hold a National Conference to find solutions to this menace of Out-Of-School-Children. I have never experienced a debate that was an achievement in unison than the one concerning this problem. I sincerely thank the entire Members of this 10th Senate for the cooperation and camaraderie shown to me.
The proposed Conference will be aimed at bringing together stakeholders, including government officials, traditional leaders, civil society organizations, and experts, to discuss and identify strategies to reduce the number of Out-Of-School-Children to the barest minimum before the end of this term of office.
This collaborative approach is essential in addressing the complex issues surrounding this menace including poverty, lack of access to education, and security, societal factors or all the three bottlenecks I mentioned.
Emphasis must be laid during this proposed Conference for, participants to emphasize on the need for political will, consistency in policy delivery, and good leadership to tackle this problem head-on. I also wish to highlight the importance of reviewing approaches to addressing the issue and strengthening Inter-Agency programs targeting Out-Of-School-Children and many other strategies I may not be at liberty to divulge here.
I will not be tired of asking for your prayers of goodwill, May God Almighty Grant us the wisdoms and drive to make the lives of Nigerians greater in these times of need, ameen.
Senator Lawal Adamu Usman A.K.A Mr L-Alert, Kaduna Central, Kaduna State.
