The South East region is concluding plans to establish a local security outfit similar of Amotekun in the south west.
President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief John Nwodo disclosed this on Thursday during “The Great Debate for National Unity” for the actualization of the 2023 igbo Presidency.
The event, hosted by the Igbo Leadership Development Foundation [ILDF] was held at the Ladi Kwali Hall, Sheraton Hotel, Abuja, on Thursday, March 5, 2020.
While delivering his speech, Chief Nwodo stated that Igbos will not fold their hands and watch marauding bandits kill their citizens.
He, therefore, assured that a local security outfit will be launched in due course for the South East of the country.
During deliberations at the meeting in Abuja, human rights advocate and environmental activist, Ms. Annkio Briggs said a security outfit for the South-South is long overdue.
In her words, “it is no longer a question of “if” there will be a security outfit but a question of “when” as it is long overdue.”
Only recently, governors of the South-South held a security summit in Enugu, where they met with the Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu, to map out a strategy to curb the growing insecurity in the region.
The Asaba meeting of the governors had resolved to revive the Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom, Cross Rivers, Edo and Delta, BRACED Commission.
All governors of the South south except Ben Ayade of Cross Rivers were present at that meeting.
