President Muhammadu Buhari has issued a warning to the nation’s security chiefs over the rising insecurity across the country, especially in the northern region.
National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd), revealed the President’s warning while responding to question from State House Correspondents at the end of a closed door meeting between the President and Security Chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday.
According to Monguno, President Buhari said, though the security chiefs had been doing their best, their best had not been good enough for the challenges facing the nation.
He said:
“A meeting was just concluded between Mr President and the heads of the security agencies – that is the operational heads consisting of Minister of Defence, the service chiefs, and on the other hand, the intelligence components consisting of myself and intelligence heads.
“Today’s meeting basically focused on recent developments. Mr President has expressed great concern over the declining security situation in the country.
“He is extremely unhappy about what is happening and he feels that even though the security agencies are doing their best, their best is not good enough for him and he wants an immediate reversal of the current trend and immediate reversal of our misfortunes in all their dimensions.”
The President also charged the office of the NSA to meet with governors of the Northwest states and that of Niger State, for briefing and strategic organisation of a response to the Banditry problem in their domains.
These meetings with the NSA came after mounting Protests over poor handling of banditry and insurgency in some parts of the country’s North.
