Senator Biodun Olujimi, a People’s Democratic Party chieftain, has said genuine reconciliation is key to the party’s bid to win the 2022 governorship election in Ekiti State.

Olujimi, who represents Ekiti South Senatorial District in the Senate, said the time for the factions, groups and interests within the party in Ekiti to unite and work together to dislodge the All Progressives Congress, was now.

This was contained in a communiqué signed by a factional PDP Chairman, Kayode Odebumi, issued at the end of a party leaders’ meeting in Ado Ekiti, on Thursday.

Those, who attended the meeting included, Olujimi; a former deputy governor, Sikiru Lawal; former acting-governor, Tunji Odeyemi; Alhaji Lateef Ajijola; Alaba Agboola; and former PDP state chairmen, Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe and Chief Gboyega Oguntuwase.

According to the communiqué, the party resolved that members should cooperate with the reconciliation committees set up at both zonal and national levels chaired by Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Senator Bukola Saraki, respectively.

Speaking during the Olujimi said, “It is, however, germane to know that the reconciliation of the party is sacrosanct and compulsory if we want to win the coming governorship election in the state next year.

“We should know that no individual’s ambition should be placed above our collective interests, and therefore, nobody should adopt a do-or-die approach to his/her ambition.”

“Governorship aspirants are enjoined to see themselves as partners in progress, as whoever emerges as the party’s flagbearer will need other aspirants to win the general election.”

‌

However, the PDP Chairman said an elders’ committee comprising men and women of substance to serve as the conscience of the party has been created.
