Without intervention from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to Nigerian Institutions of Higher Learning, education in the country would have been a disaster; These are the words of the Provost of Federal College of Education FCE Yola the Adamawa State Capital.
The Acting Provost Mr. Johnson Malgwa said this when a Presidency delegation set to document the achievements of the Buhari Administration in the education sector paid him a curtesy visit in line with the mandate to assses the impact of TETFund projects in Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education.
The Delegation headed by the Special Assistant to the Executive Secretary of TETFund Dr. Yusuf Gamawa also had broadcaster and consultant on the project Mr. Gimba Umar who is also the C.E.O of Control Media Network Limited owners of Control TV.
The acting provost applauded the performance of TETFund in the College emphasizing that the Federal College of Education Yola, has over the years, grown from strength-to-strength in terms of infrastructure development, expansion of academic programmes and rendering of community services as a result of direct impact of the massive intervention from TETFund.
He pointed out that out of the seven schools in the College, the agency, through normal or zonal intervention by the Prof. Suleiman Bogoro lead administration has completed six befitting school complexes while one is ongoing. This he says is in addition to the Directorate of Undergraduate Complex.
The acting Provost further said that the College in appreciation of the intervention of TETfund in transforming the College to a Centre of Academic Excellence and has as such named the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), in honour of the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Suleiman Elias Bogoro.
He noted that, the Suleiman Elias Bogoro 500 capacity ICT Centre, which is one among the several beautiful and functional edifices financed by TETFund with 300 functional computers that has been considered the best center for the conduct of Joint Admissions and Matriculation CBT Examinations, provides students access to global libraries and facilitates electronic registration of courses.
Malgwa further explained that the impact of the TETFund’s intervention to the College is not only felt by Staff and Students but also the immediate College Community. He cited the Bappa Aliyu Sports Complex, a 300 capacity Multipurpose indoor sports auditorium, financed through TETfund Annual Intervention, as one of several facilities enjoyed by the immediate College Community. This is just at the College frequently plays host to numerous Federal and State and Local Government events using its facilities.
In his words:
“The infrastructure facilitates by the TETfund is so impressive that it has transformed the College as Centre for the conduct examination for Military, Paramilitary, JAMB CBT among several others. The 1000 Capacity Auditorium is one of the structures so dear to the College.’’ He said.
The acting Provost further saluted TETfund for training no fewer than Thirty-Nin (39) PhD. Holders and several Masters degree holders for the College, both within and outside the country. This is in addition to training on workshops and conference. He described the intervention as a right step in salvaging education through equipping staff for their primary responsibility of producing qualified teachers for the nation.
He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for establishing new institutions of learning, saying it was a clear demonstration of his administration’s resolve to taking the education sector to a higher level.
Malgwa further called on the Federal Government and TETFund to sustain and redouble the current efforts by the TEFund towards building an educationally sound nation.
