The Nigerian Senate has said there is no clear record of number of Police Personnel in the Country.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Police, Haliru Jika made this known while presenting 2020 budget proposal to Senate Committee on Appropriations.
Chairman had informed the lawmakers that there is no record of number of policemen in Nigeria.
Shocked by the development, the Senate Committee on Appropriations summoned chairman of Police Service Commission, Musliu Smith and the Inspector General of Police, represented by CP budget and Office of Accountant General of the federation.
Smith told the lawmakers when appeared the Committee that Nigerian Police Force headquarters are in a better place to tell us the figures of its personnel.
Defending the issue, the Minister of Police Affairs , Alhaji Mohammed Dingyadi said,”the recruit are not in the pay roll of the Police, they are student in training, they are only qualified to be in the pay roll of the police once they pass out from training.”
