…Gov’t officials applauds peaceful demonstration, assures labor union of Gov Oyebanji’s commitment to citizens welfare
Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Ekiti state staged a peaceful protests over the removal of petrol subsidy by the federal government.

The demonstrators converged at the NLC Secretariat complex before marching peacefully to the Ekiti Government House, where they revealed the impact of the fuel subsidy removal on not just the masses but the entire populace.
The protesters in large numbers, while chanting solidarity songs displayed placards with various inscriptions such as, “Reduce the cost of governance now! “Save the masses from poverty and hunger”, and ‘Stop importation of fuel, revive our refineries.’ amongst other grievances.

The organised labour union made their demands known through the NLC and TUC Chairmen in Ekiti State, Kolapo Olatunde and Sola Adigun, respectively.
While briefing Governor Biodun Oyebanji, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Abibat Adubiaro at the entrance of the Government House, they called for immediate reversal of all anti-poor government policies, including the recent hike in fuel prices, school fees and value-added tax (VAT).
Other demands were, fixing of local refineries in Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna, provision for pillatives for citizens and releasing eight months of withheld salaries of university lecturers and workers before finally presenting the soft copy of their demand to the Governor’s representatives.
The governor in his response through the Head of Service, Bamidele Olugbenga Agbede, assured that he would deliver their demands to President Bola Tinubu.
