The federal government has said its decision to suspend school reopening and to stop the forthcoming West African Senior School Certificate Examinations remains Unchanged.
Reacall that Minister of Education Mallam Adamu Adamu, last week told State House Correspondents that schools would remain shut and final year students would not write the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) until the Ministry considered it safe
However, The minister of state for education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, said the government’s position remained unchanged. He however, said the ministry was still consulting with education stakeholders on what the next step to take.
He added that the West African Examination Council (WAEC) had also started consulting with other member countries on a possibility of postponing the exams.
Nwajiuba said the ministry will communicate an update if there’s any change in its earlier position.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, July 15, Nwajiuba said that there is no confidence that Nigeria is safe yet as the cases of Covid-19 keeps rising.
He said the ministry had tabled the concerns before parents and all other relevant stakeholders adding that consultations are still ongoing, He futher stated that the ministry would make its position known after consulting with various stakeholders.
