The Ondo Election Chronicle has always been a matter of debates and dispute like no other in Nigeria as series of thuggery, bloodletting and violence leads to low turn out of voters in the gubernatorial exercise.
However, Today’s gubernatorial voting consists of candidates with a vast dissimilarity which might spark discrepancy among supporters of each candidate.
The front runners of this Saturday’s poll are incumbent Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the state incumbent Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi of the Zenith Labour Party.
Mr. Ajayi, a former member of the ruling APC and incumbent Deputy Governor, is battling for the state’s number one position with his boss, Governor Akeredolu.
There have been reports of violence and killings with continued clashes between supporters of the APC and PDP, being the two leading political parties ahead of today’s election.
Control TV earlier reported that the Nigerian Police arrested 25 Persons for illegal possession of firearms in the state.
The suspects, he said, were believed to be political thugs armed for the disruption of the electioneering process but were picked out by tactical squads following actionable intelligence.
Meanwhile, political observers believe that battle over who emerges governor of the state is clearly between incumbent Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress, APC; candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Eyitayo Jegede
