A mysterious fire broke out in the popular Oba Market early this morning in Benin City the Edo state Capital.
Reports say the fire has engulfed large sections of the market, with goods worth millions of naira totally destroyed. Structures were also raised and the integrity of the concrete walls compromised.
Whaling voices of shop owners could be heard in dispear as they watched the source of their livelihood consumed by the inferno.
Several calls were made to the fire service who never responded as at the time of this report.

The government has been inundated with calls for the market to be upgraded or relocated it to no response.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the local authorities.
