The on-going 2 weeks intensive training and induction programme for monitors of the NSIP has continued with Ekiti State holding its exercise in Ado the State Capital on Thursday 18th of February 2021.
45 independent Monitors under the National Social Investment Program NSIP commenced the intensive training under strict COVID-19 protocols. The training started with registration of all Stakeholders present and verification of Independent Monitors.
Representative of the Honorable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouq Mrs kemisola Olasetemi, Technical Assistant on Social Protection to the minister said the trainees will be assigned to monitor programme beneficiaries within their locality in schools, households, and market clusters, with the focus on ensuring that the primary objectives of these programmes are achieved.
In his opening remarks, the Ekiti State Focal Persons under the NSIP praised the efforts of the federal government in an ambitious plan to get more people out of poverty in the country. He also welcomed the team from the FMHADMSD and assured them of a successful event.
The other dignitaries at the meeting were the Ekiti state focal person, Mr Victor, The State Director, National Orientation Agency NOA Mr GB Fadahunsi, the 16 LG’s coordinators for NOA, The SSA to Governor on NHGSFP, Mr Ademola Obanise, the programme Managers for the Conditional Cash Transfer, National Home Grown School Feeding Program and N-Power were also in attendance.
The NSIP were moved to the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development in 2019 following the creation of the Ministry by President Muhammadu Buhari , with a scope of enrolling 13 million citizens across 36 states and the FCT to benefit from the Federal Government Intervention.
In the ministers statement delivered by her representative, “Today, we are training Independent Monitors that will monitor the programme at the community level.
“While this is the initial training to get you acquainted with your schedule of duties, the Ministry will ensure you continue to receive regular training and guidance for effective monitoring within the communities you are assigned.
“You will be closely supervised by officials of the ministry and your activities will also be monitored by the ministry and other stakeholders at the state level. It is therefore my expectation that you carry out this responsibility with utmost diligence and sincerity. Please, be informed that the ministry will not hesitate to take you off the programme if you are found violating the terms of your engagement.
Facilitators took time to train the Independent Monitors on the NSIP program overview, working tools and reporting templates.
Stakeholders at the event commended the Federal Government and the Ministry for the sustainability and expansion of the NSIP programs and advocated for a robust feedback mechanism to ensure that the programmes meet the targeted beneficiaries.
