The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) say there is no going back on the stipulated date, February 5, its members intend to commence a nationwide industrial action.
SSANU and NASU have persisted despite a meeting convened by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, in Abuja on Tuesday to stop the non-teaching staff of the universities from embarking on the industrial action.
While the minister told journalists after the meeting that most issues raised by the unions have been addressed, the leaders of the unions insist that most of their demands are yet to be attended to.

The non-teaching members of staff are demanding that their members be removed from the government’s Integrated Personnel Payroll Information (IPPIS).
They have also called for a review of the sharing formula for the universities earned allowances between ASUU and non-teaching staff.
The strike is expected to kickstart on Friday, February 5 as announced by the spokesperson of the joint action committee, Peters Adeyemi.
