A General Court Martial (GCM) sitting in the nation’s capital, Abuja has sentenced a soldier serving with the Nigerian Army to 55 years in prison for culpable homicide, theft and housebreaking.

A General Court Martial (GCM) sitting in Abuja on Wednesday found Lance Corporal Ibrahim Babangida guilty of culpable homicide, burglary and theft.

Babangida was said to have killed the WHO worker Bello Aliyu and also stole his car at Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara in 2014.

The soldier was also accused of stealing a mobile phone and N600,000 from various persons on separate occasions.
The GMC president Maj.-Gen. Priye Fakrogha said while reading the judgement that the soldier will serve a term of 40 years in jail for homicide.

He further said Babangida will serve a prison term of five years concurrently for pleading guilty to the second, third and fourth charges.

According to PRNigeria, the verdict is subject to the confirmation of the Nigerian Army Council Authority.
