Fight against  Insurgency in Nigeria continues as no more than 70 bandits were killed by troops of Operation Thunder Strike in conjunction with troops of 312 Artillery Regiment and local Vigilantes.

The Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, who disclosed this in a statement in Abuja, said the operation took place on Friday during a clearance patrol in Kachia Forest in Kaduna state. He said the operation was carried out after the troops received credible information on the bandits’ movements within the area.

According to the Maj.-Gen, the bandits were pursued by the troops through Gidan Maikeri village in Chikun LGA into the forest. They were consequently engaged by Nigerian Air Force helicopter gunships.

Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, stated:

“Their location was identified and consequently engaged by Nigerian Air Force helicopter gunships.

“After the air interdiction, 70 bandits were confirmed killed by human intelligence while others escaped with injuries while exploitation operation is still being carried out by the troops in the forest.

Major General Enechie also stressed that all residents in the area should watch out and report every person sighted with sudden and suspicious injuries, as many of the bandits had escaped from the forest with gunshot wounds.
