Professor of History, Ahmad Bello University, Professor Dahiru Yahaya has revealed that all the emirs nominated in new emirates in Kano are Fulani kinsmen of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
The Professor said many people see Governor Abdullahi Ganduje as an unmitigated Fulani tribal chauvinist who only learnt Hausa lately and is all out to destroy the greatest achievement of Hausa people in political culture.
He added that any decision to create more emirates in Kano is only an attempt to destroy the unity of Kano and divert our resources.
According to him, “The present Kano Emirate has been in existence for more than 1000 years. All the emirates that are being proposed namely Bichi, Gaya, Karaye and Rano had always being within the jurisdiction of Kano since 800 years before the Fulani Jihad of Shehu Usman Dan Fodio. They were all paramount village heads under Kano. The claim by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje that some of the proposed emirates were older than Kano is political.
” It is a serious misrepresentation of the History of Kano. Reasonable persons should consider the magnificence of the boundaries of Kano City, the expanse of the Kofar Kudu Palace of the Ruler of Kano, the third oldest, built over five hundred years ago, the size of the Kurmi market in the city, which is even older than the Palace and the Central Mosque built in the fourteenth century. Is there anything like them in Bichi, Gaya, Karaye and Rano? None of their palaces is one tenth as big as the Palace of the Emir of Kano. All their people are Kanawa, Hausa and Muslim. Where is the need? Ironically, all the emirs nominated are the Fulani kinsmen of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje
“Any decision to create more emirates in Kano is only an attempt to destroy the unity of Kano and divert our resources. Whatever the branches of government and the tools in Bichi, Gaya, Karaye and Rano that are being used to destroy Kano may think, this misadventure is unpatriotic, mischievous and fraudulent. No one should take silence as acceptance. Let us avert the potentiality of eruption.
“Many people see Governor Abdullahi Ganduje as an unmitigated Fulani tribal chauvinist who only learnt Hausa lately and is all out to destroy the greatest achievement of Hausa people in political culture. This ill-advised attempt will certainly tear down the foundations of peace and security that Kano had enjoyed for centuries. Another former Fulani Governor of Kano, Muhammadu Rimi made the same mistake, which his successor, the Hausa Governor of Kano, Sabo Bakin Zuwo corrected. The same thing will happen again.
“The Fulani vendetta between Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and Emir Muhammad Sanusi II should not be allowed to destroy Kano. Governor Abdullahi Ganduje should appreciate the privileges bestowed upon him by On-High and respect the sensibilities of Kano people and watch their sensitivities.
“I know and respect Governor Abdullahi Ganduje from his school days as gentle and amiable. He is very mature in politics and able to work amicably with strange political bedfellows. He should now be a statesman and leave behind an enviable record on this most controversial issue. It will be praiseworthy if the government of His Excellency promulgate a Law of Settlement between the traditional institution and the modern democratic state. The Law of Settlement will put everyone in line. Governor Abdullahi Ganduje will then leave behind an enviable record. Let us be fresh and original for goodness sake. Let leave this Ruga [cowboy] vindictive tendency to rest and be more Islamic and humane in our approach to public interest.”
