Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, yesterday, reportedly dropped his Deputy, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan, as running mate in the 2023 general elections.

It was gathered that the current Chairman, State Housing Corporation, Mr. Bayo Lawal, has been picked as replacement.
There is a frosty relationship between Governor Makinde and his deputy, Olaniyan.
Our correspondent gathered that Deputy Governor had prior to this latest development contemplated leaving the PDP for another party.
He accused the governor of sidelining him in decision making, especially on issues concerning the party.
It was gathered that the Deputy governor was not carried along during the selection of party’s candidates in the last primary election.

As a result of this, the Deputy governor was not in attendance at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, venue of the primary election.
But a top Government official confided in the Network that the Deputy Governor has been holding meetings with top officials of the All Progressives Congress.
When asked if the story that Makinde had dropped him was true, the source, “the Deputy Governor is the deputy governor and the running mate is a running mate. They are not the same. Why are you mixing up two entirely different matters?”
