The lagos state government has disclosed its intention to shut the Third Mainland Bridge on Saturday.
This was contained in a statement issued by Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladeinde, on Wednesday.
He explained that the closure is to enable the contractors to remove the equipment used during the rehabilitation of the bridge.
According to Oladeinde, the closure would last for 24 hours between Friday midnight and Saturday midnight.
“Having completed the replacement of the 12th expansion joint and to demobilise the superstructure of the Third Mainland Bridge, the Lagos State Government will shut down the bridge from midnight Friday to midnight Saturday,” the statement read in part.
“The total closure of the bridge was slated to enable the contractors to move the equipment used during the rehabilitation process off the bridge completely to allow both the Oworonshoki and Adeniji bound lanes to open fully to traffic.”
The commissioner added that traffic management personnel would be deployed along the affected routes to minimise and address any traffic impediments during the closure.
The Lagos State government took to its official twitter page to disclose the development.
