The Lagos Airport was temporarily closed after a mangled body was discovered on the runway.

On Thursday, May 19, the international wing of the country’s main airport in Lagos was temporarily closed.
This was in response to the discovery of a mangled body on Murtala Muhammed International Airport’s Runway 18R in Lagos.
The identity of the deceased man could not be determined, nor could it be determined whether he was killed by an aircraft taking off or landing on the runway.

The runway was temporarily shut down, according to airport officials, while a team of officials from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and the Nigeria Police Force evacuated the body from the runway.
After a temporary runway closure, international flights were unable to land or take off from the airport’s international terminal.
Ethiopian Airlines flight 3907, a Boeing 77F with the registration number ETAVN, was on its way from Lome, Togo to Lagos, Nigeria. Following a brief hold, the flight was diverted back to Lome.

The body was discovered on Runway 18R during a routine FAAN runway inspection, according to airport officials.
According to a top police official at the MMIA who confirmed the news to the media, the command was summoned in the early hours of Thursday to remove the body from Runway 18R. He went on to say that the police are still looking into the identity of the deceased man and how he got into the international airport’s security area.
