A team of police operatives, known as Operation Harmony in Kwara State Police Command, on Monday, May 3, 2021, arrested a man, identified as Kehinde John Moses, travelling in a vehicle with a fresh human head and two hands.

Disclosing this in a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Ajayi Okasanmi, said that the 24-year-old suspect was arrested at about 6:30am, along Ajase Ipo/Ilorin road, by the team during a stop-and-search duty.

According to the PPRO, the operatives had stopped a commercial bus, “and in the process of searching a bag, one man took to his heels while his partner was held. The bag was searched and a freshly-severed head and hands of a young man were discovered in it.

“In the course of interrogation, he confessed to have killed the victim, named Mohammed, in Ajase Ipo with his fleeing partner, for ritual purposes.”

Okasanmi stated that the startling discovery made the state Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Lawal Bagega, to direct the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to investigate the case and arrest anyone connected to the crime.

The suspect was said to have taken a team of investigators to the spot the body of the ritual victim was dumped, from where it was recovered and deposited in the mortuary of a hospital for autopsy.

Okasanmi added that police commissioner used the matter to warn criminals to vacate the state, as the Command had the capacity to deploy all legal means to deal with them, to ensure peaceful lives for Kwara people.

“Investigation into the case is ongoing, the suspect will be charged to court as soon as it is concluded,” the PPRO said.
