The Kwara State Government has demolished a building belonging to family of former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.
The building, popularly known as Ile Arugbo in Ilorin, Kwara State, was brought down on Thursday morning after security operatives dispersed protesters, including aged women who tried to stop them.
The State Government had alleged that the land was unlawfully acquired by Saraki’s late father, Olusola Saraki and also hinted on plans to build a new state secretariat on the site this year.
“Ownership of the land bordering the Civil Service Clinic in Ilorin has officially reverted to Kwara State Government. A new secretariat complex will be erected on the land next year (2020).”
“The land was originally meant for Government Secretariat and a parking space for the Civil Service Clinic but was unlawfully allocated to a private firm Asa Investments Limited without any record of payment to the state government.
Also according to the Chief Press Secretary Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, Rafiu Adekaye “No certificate of occupancy was ever issued in favour of the firm,” a comment he made in dexember last year.
