Kogi’s Non Governmental Organization Network, [KONGONET], has put to notice the growing insecurity in the state, saying they have lost confidence in the security in Kogi state.
The KONGONET has raised alarm to Governor Yahaya Bello to address recent upsurge in crime in Kogi State.
The chairman of the organization, Idris Ozovehe Muraina in an interview on Saturday, called on the governor to change his approach in handling security issues, as citizens in Kogi State can no longer sleep with their two eyes closed or travel around the state over fear of the unknown.
The Chairman described the recent surge in the rate of crimes and criminality in Kogi State as “unfortunate and sad”.
He Said:
“Kogi State is the transit corridor of the nation bordered by Nine (9) states and the FCT, the return of men of the underworld to our highways call for serious concern.
“While we call for immediate security response to this ugly development, the current administration should ensure never to lose the war on combating insecurity in the state because the administration had pride itself and scored her self-high on security.
“No wonder the executive governor was given the big task of leading the North Central state towards tackling insecurity. It is rather unfortunate that this is raring its ugly head at this material time in our dear state,”
There has been bloodbath of innocent citizen in Kogi state Citizens killed or kidnapped has become a weekly occurrence in the state, In Isanlu, eight police officers and one civilian were killed by some armed Gunmen in broad day light, Recently, an army captain, identified as GSM Abubakar driving in company of his wife was shot dead and his wife and mother kidnapped.
Also on Thursday, 9th June, 2020, two naval officers were reportedly shot dead along Okene/Lokoja express way.
Meanwhile, Reacting to the killings in the state , Kingsley Fanwo, commissioner for information and communications, in statement on Friday commiserated with the families of victims for the insecurity in the state.
He said the Yahaya Bello administration would change the narrative in a couple of days, noting that security plans and strategies are already in place to address the situation.
His statement Reads in Part:
“Latest onslaught against our state and our people have been unfortunate and sad. We stand with the families that lost their loved ones and breadwinners to the cowards in the garbs of criminals. They won’t lose their lives in vain,” he said.
