The development has made it difficult for Nigerians to connect with loved ones and business associates in most parts of the country.

MTN’s customers are currently unable to use the mobile network operator’s call, data and SMS services.

Some of the users, who also subscribed to other telecom service providers, have since switched over pending the resolution of the service outage to link up with friends and family.

MTN is the largest telecommunication provider in Nigeria with 77.35 million subscribers, according to latest industry statistics from the Nigerian Communications Commission.

MTN in a statement said, “Yello, some of our customers are having difficulty connecting to the network today.

“We are looking into this and are truly sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

One subscriber who travelled down to Lagos from Benin noticed he couldn’t make calls, send SMS or use data.

It was at Jibowu he found out that MTN network was down. A good samaritan assisted him to call his wife who uses Airtel to help him book a ride from one of the hailing companies.

When ask about experience, another subscriber said, “Terrible experience for me, Got to Ajah and Google map wouldn’t work, no network to make calls.”

At the moment, the outage has become brisk business for workers at motor parks who help travelers arriving Lagos to book rides for a fee.
