JUST IN: Former IGP, Gambo Jimeta Is Dead

Former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Alhaji Muhammadu Gambo Jimeta has been confirmed dead at the age of 85.

The deceased was appointed as Nigeria’s IGP in 1986 to succeed Etim Inyang and was succeeded by Aliyu Attah in 1990.

Born on the15th of April, 1937 at Jimeta, Adamawa State, Nigeria’s 7th IGP started his early education at Jimeta Elementary School, 1947-49 in Yola.

He attended Middle School, 1950-55; Bauchi Provincial Secondary School, 1956-58; Government College, Keffi, 1958-59, Nigeria Police College, Kaduna, 1959, Police College, Ikeja, Lagos State, 1959.

Jimeta proceeded to Detective Training School, Wakefield in the UK in1962; Bramhill Police College, UK, 1963, International Police Academy, Washington DC, USA, 1980; National Police Academy, Cairo, Egypt, Wolfson College; University of Cam bridge, UK, 1980-81.

He was then enrolled in the Nigeria Police as a Cadet sub-Inspector in September 1959 and to promoted Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in 1963.

The deceased became Deputy Superintendent of Police in 1967 and emerged as Superintendent of Police in1969.

He was a Chief Superintendent of Police in 1972 and Assistant Commissioner of Police in 1974.

Jimeta was promoted to Commissioner of Police in 1977 and appointed Commissioner of Police and member, Executive Council, Lagos State, 1979.
