“So far we established 40 people missing after the attack,” said a resident to reporters.

Another resident, Lawal Jibiya, said neighboring villagers alerted them about the impending attack, after sighting the movements of the bandits heading towards the town.

He said hundreds of youth and local vigilante group in the town were on alert and ready to confront the bandits, but the assailants changed their route and entered the town from the western entry point.

Katsina is among one the states in Nigeria that have been affected by rampant kidnappings by bandits in recent time.

On Friday, April 30, bandits in the wee hours of Friday morning killed one Abdu Buzu (Warwas) and abducted four other persons in Dangani village, Musawa Local government area of Katsina State.

The bandits stormed the village around 1:40 am, killed Abdu Buzu, and kidnapped others.

Also, a cameraman attached to the Information Unit of Jibia Local Government in the state, Ibrahim Dankabo, was killed on Monday, May 3, during a kidnap operation by bandits.

The hoodlums during the operation also abducted many travellers on the Katsina-Jibia road, most of whom were residents of Magamar Jibia.
