Jersey,U.S, Nigeria Ties: $308m USD Abacha loot to be used on Lagos-Ibadan, Abuja–Kano Expressways ― Malami

The Minister of Justice and Attorney general of the federation  Mr Abubakar Malami SAN in a press statement published on the website of the US embassy in Nigeria said that the $308 million General Sani Abacha’s loot will be used to construct the Lagos-Ibadan express way, Abuja-Kano Express way and the second Niger bridge.

AGF Malami in his words said, “As you are aware, the government of Nigeria has committed that the assets will support and assist in expediting the construction of the three major infrastructure projects across Nigeria,
“These projects currently being executed under the supervision of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority as a public-private partnership (PPP) will boost economic growth and help alleviate poverty by connecting people and supply chains from the East to the West and to the Northern part of Nigeria, a vast area covering several kilometers with millions of the country’s population set to benefit from the road infrastructures.“

He also discouraged embezzlement of public funds and urged the international community to encourage sustainable development by recovering stolen assets.

AGF Malami also recognized the efforts of the three parties involved (Nigeria, Jersey and the United States) and that of the legal experts and Attorneys representing Nigeria.

He Emphasized on the importance of unity amongst countries in the implementation of of the GFAR principles on the recovery of stolen assets.

Malami Urged Nigerians to be more vigilant and monitor the implementation of the projects in order to bring about development and better transportation system in the country.
