The Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, has said those who abducted the schoolgirls from Government Secondary School, Jangebe are of Hausa and Fulani ethnicity.

He disclosed this while he was interviewed in a program which was closely monitored by Control TV.

The Governor said, “They say most of them are Hausa and some of them are Fulani. In fact, they even asked the school children to pray for them. So, they say they are of different entities contrary to the thought that they are all Fulani.

“Some reporters have interviewed some of the girls who have identified some of these guys (kidnappers). In fact, one of the girls told us that she knows one of them who is Hausa and used to come to Jangebe market. She promised that any time he comes to Jangebe market she will be able to identify him and point him out to the security.”

The girls were abducted on Friday by bandits who stormed their school on motorcycles and Hilux vehicles.

Their release was announced on Tuesday by Zulum who said they were returned safely without any ransom paid.

“This is the result of our peace effort, putting to shame all those saying there is no security in this country.

“We have been in discussion since Friday with the abductors and reached agreement on Monday by 4pm that the girls were released,” the Governor said while receiving the girls in Gusau, the state capital.
