Lagos State Commissioner for Health Prof Akin Abayomi says he and many others are surprised it took this long before he contracted coronavirus disease.
The commissioner had on Monday announced that he tested positive to COVID-19, adding he would be receiving treatment at home
Abayomi said in an interview on Wednesday on Nigeria Info FM that his voice had turned slightly coarse, but that he was getting better.
He said: “Right now my voice is a bit coarse because I have active COVID-19 at the moment. However I am not that unwell and I am slowly getting better.
“It surprises many and myself that it took this long for me to contract COVID-19. I thought on many occasions that I had contracted it as I have been exposed on several occasions.
“Immediately some members of my family lost their sense of taste and smell, I knew I had been at risk and it is not surprising that I tested positive. I have been a little bit under the weather, but it is not a serious case.”
Mr Abayomi further advised the public to continue following all COVID-19 safety protocols.
