The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has condemned the recent robbery in the state which led to the death of civilians and security personnels, While calling on the security agencies to bring the criminals to book.
The incident, which took place in Isanlu under Yagba East Local Government Area of the state and has since sent panic across the region
The robbers attacked first bank and also a police station in the area, causing the death of citizens and security operatives. The armed robbers broke into the bank with dynamites and Ak47 and carted with alot of money.
Eye witnesses said the robbers launched their first attack in the police station opposite the local government headquarters before proceeding to the bank, which was the only commercial Bank in the town.
The kogi state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has called on security agencies in the state to go after the criminals who participated In the robbery at isanlu and also the attack on the police station which led to the death of some persons, including police personnel on duty.
The governor gave the directives in a statement released by his chief press secretary, Onogwu Muhammed in lokoja, the state capital.
He said:
“Our open arms is no invitation to criminals. Our first responsibility as a government is to ensure the security of lives and property in the state. Bank robbery was a recurrence decimal in Kogi state before the current administration.
Together with all security agencies in the state, we ended the regime of this form of crime since 2017, we will not allow this to reverse the gains we have recorded in protecting lives and property of our people”.
He further charged residents of the state to readily assist the security operatives in their own way by providing useful information to help combat crime in the state.
Meanwhile The inspector general of police IGP Mohammed Adamu, has ordered a full scale manhunt for the perpetrators of the attack on isanlu police station and a commercial Bank in yagba East local government area of kogi state on Thursday, 4th June, 2020.
In a statement by the force public relations officer, DCP Frank MBA, on Friday, Adamu also directed the assistant inspector general (AIG),to personally oversee the ongoing investigations into the attack and coordinate intelligence that will lead to unearthing the whereabouts of the hoodlums and the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.
AIG “Yunana Babass” will also access and review the security arrangement in kogi state and its environs to prevent any future occurrence of such incident in the state.
