Gbenga Daniel, former governor of Ogun State under the umbrella of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Incumbent Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, disclosed this via his Twitter handle.
OGD as he is fundly called was welcomed into the ruling party at his Asoludero residence, in Sagamu, by Gov Abiodun; Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu; Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu; Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje; and Niger State Governor, Abubakar Bello.

In his tweet, Ogun state governor said; “Today, we had the privilege of receiving into the All Progressives Congress, APC, former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, OGD.”
He lauded the personality of the ex-campaign manager for the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, stating that he is “indeed a true progressive, considering the unreserved support His Excellency has given this present Administration in the pursuit of a better society for the good people of Ogun State.”
Abiodun stated the expectation of the APC to be looking forward “to the positive vibe of the former Governor and innovative thinker as we jointly build the future of our dear State together”.
In his remarks, Bagudu, Chairman of APC Governors, described Daniel as “a political colossus with outstanding political ideology”.
He said the “APC had grown bigger and better with his defection”, adding that “the party was happy to receive him”.
Akeredolu described Daniel’s defection as ‘homecoming’ and urged leaders of APC in the state to come together to build and make the party stronger.
