Governor Abdulahi Ganduje of Kano state has recieved the report of the RUGA settlement committee nearly 17 weeks after it was set up.
Receiving the report on Saturday, the governor said although implementation on areas of security has since been in place, the committee’s report will assist the state government in fully implementing the RUGA settlement program.
According to the report Kano state has all it takes yo implement and accomodate all herdsmen in the country including neighbouring nations..
Meanwhile the governor has argued that most of the crimes committed are not by the fulani herdsmen adding that they have been blamed due to they nomadic nature of moving around for pasture.
“They are not criminals carrying AK47 rifles. They are not poor either but herdsmen frustrated by lack of adequate grazing reserves. This is why our government remains committed to providing lasting solutions to the alleged farmers herders conflict in some parts of the country”.
He says the RUGA settlement program must be given too priority to reduce the movement of the herders down south.
On August 18 2019. Governor Abdullahi Ganduje set up a committee to identify areas where RUGA settlements and milk markets can be set up in Kano state.
While submitting the report the Chairman of the committee Mr. Jibrin Mohammed told the governor that Kano state has all it takes to accommodate herdsmen from all parts of the country and beyond.
The committee has identified Dangwauro as a suitable site for the milk market while Dansoshiya earth dam for grazing.
