Reports in London on Wednesday confirmed that Frank Lampard who was sacked by Everton in January due to a poor run of games has agreed to coach Chelsea until the end of this season.
The club and Lampard are in advanced talks to have the former England international in place in time to take charge of Saturday’s trip to Wolves.
Recall that Graham Potter was fired by Chelsea on Sunday following a string of poor performances that saw the team plummet to 11th position in the Premier League despite spending more than £500 million on new players in their first season under their new owners.
However, they have advanced to the Champions League quarterfinals and will play the reigning champions Real Madrid in the first leg of their last-eight match in Madrid in seven days.

To jumpstart a quick turnaround, American club owners have turned to Lampard. He watched the 0-0 home draw between Chelsea and Liverpool on Tuesday.
Throughout his 13-year career with Chelsea, Lampard won three Premier League titles, and the Champions League, and is still the team’s all-time leading scorer.
In the 44-year-old’s first season in charge at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea finished fourth in the Premier League and advanced to the FA Cup final.
However, he was fired in the middle of his second campaign, and Chelsea went on to win the Champions League that same season under Thomas Tuchel.
On the other hand, Luis Enrique, a former manager of Spain and Barcelona, and Julian Nagelsmann, the recently ousted manager of Bayern Munich, are two of the leading candidates to manage Chelsea as the club’s next permanent manager.
Chelsea have made contact with the two favorites and Enrique was in London on Wednesday for negotiations.
