Despite a warning by the federal government not to reopen schools in the state, the Oyo government will be going ahead with its plans, to reopen schools in the state on 6th July.

The Oyo state Residents are in a panic frenzy over the decision of the state government to reopen schools on Monday, July 6, despite the rising cases of Coronavirus across the country.

Gov Makinde

Three Commissioners in the state and a number of medical experts has tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus Pandemic. But its Government still insist on Opening Schools.

Ibadan is the Largest City in west Africa With a population of over 3 million, it is the third most populous city in Nigeria after Lagos and Kano ibadan is also not a city where many wear facemask or observe social distancing. Major markets in the state remain unchecked.

The Minister of State for Education, Mr Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, has however  condemned this dicission from the Oyo state Government. while speaking during the meeting of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, he described the plan by tho Oyo state government as insensitive,

He stated

“For you to decide to unleash this in the public in the face of the pandemic is to be insensitive. Nigeria has not gotten to optimal testing, so we cannot forecast where this epidemic is most positioned. The least we can do is to keep our children under lock and key until we are sure it’s safe.”

“When you say the education sector opens, you are opening transporters, food sellers, and the like. The country cannot afford it now,” he said.
