The trend of kill and bury that has trailed ritualists seems to have shifted grounds to constituted authorities. This is the sad end of one Odion Omafo Samuel, 36, who was killed and buried in ths bush by four Federal Road Safety (FRSC) officials attached to Abudu outpost in Edo state.
The police exhumed the body of the deceased following the apprehension of two of the suspects by the police, who took them to the bush where the decomposing body of Mr Odion was buried in a shallow grave.
Names of the FRSC officials were given as Francis Igboh, Sunday Ogi, Samson Alolade and Joseph Onolade.
Our sources gathered that, exchange of words ensued when the FRSC officials demanded for bribe from the driver he had hired. The deceased asked the driver not comply by giving a dime to the FRSC officials.
It was learnt that late Odion hired a driver of an Audi 80 car and they were flagged down at Okhuaihe Hill along Benin-Agbor Road October 14, 2019.
A source corroborated that Odion joined the driver to put up a resistance against alleged extortion attempts by the FRSC officers and it led to a fracas.
The driver was said to have fled the scene for safety when he noticed that the pandemonium had grown beyond his thought. This gave them more room to perfect their dastardly act. It was gathered that, the FRSC officials beat the deceased to a comma.
He was reportedly rushed to a hospital and doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.
In order to conceal the incidence, the FRSC officials were said to have buried him in a shallow grave in the bush.
The disappearance of Mr Odion was traced to the driver, who was eventually arrested for kidnapping the deceased.
Cooperating with police investigators, the driver was said to have told his story which led the police to carry out detailed investigation and two of the four FRSC officials were arrested.
The two FRSC officers Francis Igboh and Samson Alolade took investigators to the bush where the decomposing body of Odion was evacuated.
It was learnt that the suspects accused late Odion of snatching their booking tickets.
Spokesman for Edo State Police Command, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident saying it was a case of murder.
“Our operatives in the homicide section of the State Criminal and Intelligence Investigation Department (SCIID), police headquarters, Benin City are investigating the case.
