Governor of Yobe state, Mai Mala Buni, has stated that the ongoing protests against excesses of Various Nigerian Police unit may lead to anarchy if not well handled.
The Acting chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), also said there is a hidden agenda behind the ongoing protests which have claimed lives.
Governor Buni stated this during an interview with BBC Hausa on Monday morning.
He stated that there is need for Nigerian leaders to intervene and persuade the protesters to leave the streets to prevent anarchy.
The #EndSars Campaign had started with a demand for the disbandment of the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria police over its excesses which has led to the death of many Nigerian youths.
The Federal Government however heeded by passing an executive order for the disbandment of the FSARS while also introducing a new Unit Called Special Weapon and Tactical (SWAT)
However, Reacting to the relentless agitation by the youth which has led to killings, stagnation of various businesses and blockade of major roads in the Nation Mai Buni Said;
“Hoodlums can utilise the gathering to cause confusion and terrorise other innocents citizens,” “The ongoing protests show that there is hidden agenda, after the government has responded to the protesters’ demand.”
“Nigeria is a country accommodating people with several motives and demands which include restructuring and disintegration, thus, we should be careful,” Mr Buni said.
He said “there are criminals who see the disbanded police unit as threat to their criminal activities”.
