The Disbanded Police Squad SARS from documented evidence dating back 2017 didn’t come cheep and with countless sacrifices by innocent people some of whom were brutalized unjustly and killed in some instances.
The First of recent memory to stop SARS from it’s Neferious activities by the Federal Government was published by Bashir Ahmed, the social media aid to President Buhari at the time.
In a tweet on the morning of 12/4/2017 Mr. Ahmed said:
#EndSARS: IG of Police Orders Immediate re-organisation of SARS across the country and further gave a link to a full statement by the IGP at the time.
But the efforts to Bring the squad which was fast assuming a deadly reputation was twarrted,… nothing seem to have been done to show true intentions to stop SARS by the government in its trail of oppression, impunity and destruction which SARS left as its trail.
In 2018, Mr Ahmed on the morning of August 8, 2018, Tweeted again saying, Acting President, Yemi Oshinbajo orders immediate overhaul of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS)… Again the efforts seem to suggest; the barking of a toothless bulldog.
A third attempt at stopping SARS during the period under review also dashed the people’s hopes of getting justice for the ordinary man on the streets many of whom today stand unaccounted for under arrests by SARS.
In the morning of January 21, 2019 another tweet was made by Mr Ahmed; in actions already sounding like broken records and taking Nigerians for granted and according to many a docile lot.
That notion was later to be proved wrong as the youth vented their frustrations in a Nationwide protest to stop the police squad using the #ENDSARS on social media which culminated in protests heled across states in the country. The date of this successful protest was 10/11/2020.
Actions of the youth on this occasion of Protest demanding for the scrapping if SARS for many has given rise to a new Nigeria where their voices will be heard.
How loud their voices is though, is another test of the resilliance of the Nigerian youth to Truelly bring about change, and right the wrongs meeted-out on them for far too long.
