OPEN LETTER TO HIS EXCELLENCY PRESIDENT ASIWAJU BOLA AHMED TINUBU
Dear Sir,
APPRECIATION FOR HEEDING OUR CALL TO RELEASE THE NORTHERN CHILDREN ARRESTED DURING THE #EndBadGovernance PROTEST
On the 3rd day of November 2024, the National Youth Alliance (NYA) northern region converged at Arewa House and called on you to expedite action towards ensuring the release of those northern minors detained for over ninety (90) days at the Correctional Centre, in less than 24hrs, you heed our call and gave instructions for their release. We thank you for this kind gesture. This shows that you got the message of the aggrieved northern youths and you responded to it swiftly for the sake of peace. We thank you immensely for this move. Please, continue on this good note and ensure those children and their families are compensated adequately for undergoing such inhuman treatment these past three (3) months.
In the same vein, the National Youth Alliance (NYA) called on you to intervene on the arrest of our Imo State Chairman, Comrade Chinonso Uba (Nonsonkwa) who was unlawfully detained by Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma. Nonsonkwa was arrested for speaking the truth as a journalist and an activist who has always stood against every form of injustice in the society. This is a war against the fundamental human right of expression in a democratic dispensation you actively participated in bringing into Nigeria after sending the military packing on the platform of NADECO.
Your Excellency, we the younger generation learnt activism from you and other great comrades who fought for the rights of Nigerian citizens and ensured that democracy is not truncated in your time. It is now very disappointing to see how the good legacy of democratic activism you left for us is undergoing sever attacks under your watch as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This draconian approach to shut down the voices of truth and detaining those who are courageous to speak the truth with flimsy allegations of treasonable felony is strange and cannot be tolerated going forward.
Please Sir, call Governor Hope Uzodinma to order. Nigeria is not under military dictatorship. In the same way you instructed that the minors from northern Nigeria be released immediately, we humbly request you instruct that Hope Uzodinma releases Nonsonkwa immediately and unconditionally. Enough is enough!
Governors like Uzodinma are known for misrule of all kinds. You need to distance yourself from such notorious characters. Since he became governor, Imo State has become a shadow of itself. The rate of criminality has multiplied. People are kidnapped and killed like chicken every day. No meaningful development in Imo State. The height of his political recklessness and high-handedness is that he allegedly forced all the 27 LGA Chairmen he rigged into office recently to write and sign their resignation letters before they are given APC tickets, in case anyone of them doesn’t comply to give him the LGA allocation, his resignation letter will be made public and he will be replaced. This is a direct affront to the good policy your administration made on LGA allocation through the landmark judgment by the Supreme Court.
We the younger generation are taking note of every action today’s government officials are taking; both good and bad. We will tell your stories and have posterity remember you for everything you have done. Wisdom demands that you do what is right today to make it easier for us to forget the wrong things you did in the past. Just know we cannot back down from fighting for our rights. Also, we cannot give up on fighting for the birthing of a New Nigeria.
We sincerely wish this letter comes to you in good fate as we anticipate your kind considerations.
Please, be assured of our utmost regard.
Yours Sincerely,
Amb. Aliyu Bin Abbass
National Chairman/Youth President
National Youth Alliance (NYA).
