El Clasico: Real Madrid Beat Barcelona To Top La Liga

Karim Benzema scored an elegant flicked goal to lead Real Madrid to a 2-1 win over Barçelona in the Spanish La Liga.

The victory at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium on Saturday night has moved Real to 66th points, lifting them to the top of the table.

The champions despite being a man down, after Casemiro was sent off the pitch, maintained their third straight El Clasico victory to overcome a Barçelona side that did not do much wrong in the encounter.

Benzema through Lucas Vazquez gave the Madrid side the leading edge at the 14th minute.

He has become the fourth Real Madrid player to score in seven matches or more in a row in LaLiga, in the 21st century, after Ruud van Nistelrooy, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.

Real’s fate of dropping from the top of the league would be determined after their local rivals, Atletico Madrid meet Real Betis.
