Yesterday the All Progressive Congress Edo State chapter in an advisory capacity has narrowed down its gubernatorial aspirants for the upcoming 2024 polls in the State to six, with two candidates emerging from each senatorial district.
The declaration of Lucky Imasuen as one of the prominent contenders chosen from Edo South has sparked enthusiastic celebrations among party members, the electorates, and even within the opposition. Last night, as soon as the decision reached party leaders and members, exuberant jubilations reverberated throughout the state.
The meeting occurred in room 212 of the senate building, with the majority of the 28 aspirants who underwent the screening process in attendance.
Some party supporters who could not hide their joy were seen jubilating on the streets in Benin City and across the the other two senatorial districts over the decision of the committee which was saddled with the responsibility of bringing down the aspirants to a manageable number.
Party supporters are effusive in their praise for the party’s astute decision to position Lucky Imasuen as a gubernatorial candidate. Recognized as a seasoned party chieftain, Imasuen’s unwavering commitment and contributions to the party have not gone unnoticed.

According to gathered feedback, opposition party members are equally pleased with Imasuen’s potential candidacy. They claim they are prepared to collapse their party structures to rally behind his gubernatorial bid if he secures the ticket.
A prominent PDP party chieftain, who preferred to remain anonymous, stated that Lucky Imasuen serves as a unifying force and bridge builder, consistently demonstrating a passion for the state’s development. According to him, Imasuen stands out as the best choice, even prompting them to set aside personal interests for the greater good.
Prominent figures such as Col. David Imuse, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, Prince Clem Agba, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and Dr. Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe are among the candidates who have successfully made it through the selection process. The consensus among various political entities underscores the belief that Lucky Imasuen’s candidacy represents a unifying force and a promising choice for the progress of the state.
