The accused, according to the DSS, were members of a statewide gang that specialised in kidnapping toddlers.
On Monday, the state director of the DSS, Jonathan Kure, paraded the suspects at the DSS headquarters in Akure, the state capital, and said the syndicate had been terrorising the state by reportedly snatching toddlers aged two to four years.
According to Kure, the agency initiated an operation to track down and arrest the individuals after receiving orders from President Muhammadu Buhari, as well as the assistance of its Director-General and the Ondo State Government.
The syndicate’s nursing mother according to him, assisted them in keeping their weapons safe for the group’s members, and she was also a wife to one of them.

“They (the suspects) have tormented so many families, especially in Akure, and we were able to launch a crackdown thanks to President Buhari’s directive and the support of our DG.”
“You can see that they are young men,” the Director said. “What’s more touching is that one of their members is a nursing mother and wife of one of the kidnappers; she also serves as the group’s armoury commander.”
Kure stated that the suspects would be charged in court soon as the investigation into the case progressed.

The state’s Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who was at DSS headquarters during the suspects’ march, said the government was dedicated to effectively securing the lives and property of citizens of the state.
Aiyedatiwa advised landlords to profile their tenants and learn what kind of employment they conduct Before letting out their homes.
“Security is everyone’s business,” he said. “If you notice anyone living beyond their means, let security check them out.”
