President Muhammadu Buhari has announced a 14 days restriction of movement in Lagos Ogun and the Federal Capital Tertitory Abuja from 11.00pm on Monday 30th March 2020 as measures in stoping the spread of the coronavirus.
The President said this in a nationwide broadcast to Nigerians this evening.
According to the president, a mechanism has been activated by the government to contain the virus which has now recorded 97 confirmed cases and one death; the PPMC Boss.
“As of today covid 19 has no cure
We are in touch with Global institutions for a cure to the virus”
“For now the best way is social distancing, we remain the ultimate weapon to combat the virus.”
Fumigation is a way to go in containing it.. a measure we have taken… Since the outbreak in China we are monitoring the situation.
The President says he is proud of the NCDC DG Dr. Chikwe Iheakweazu since his return from a study of the virus in China.
We have been able to adopt global strategies to stop this through a 2 step approach of preventing spread and protecting lives.
“He said in the fight against the pandemic there is no over or under reaction but the right reaction”
“We will continue to rely on relevant organisation NCDC to guide us”.
“Lagos and Abuja have the highest cases and so we have intervened by providing =N=15b naira to contain it and also a task force reviewed on a daily bases to help fight it.”
“Our goal is to ensure all states have the capacity to respond immediatly”.
Training of medical reps. including intelligence security agents are to be trained by NCDC in order to be consistent with laid down guidelines set to fight Covid-19.
“All confirmed cases are getting the necessary medical care.The few confirmed cases are linked to cases from Lagos and the FCT”.
“We will use the containment period to trace and isolate confirmed cases and treat them”.
“Commercial establishment retail companies Petroleum industries, private security organisations, are exempted.. also print, and electronic media are exempted from the restriction order, while The ports will work in accordance with laid down guidelines.”
“Movement of private or commercial aircrafts is suspended…”
“It’s our national duty to confront and combat the virus; the common enemy can only be overcome if we work together in the war against Covid-19”.
“Relief materials will be released to satellite towns of Lagos and the FCT to cusion the effect of the restriction of movement”.
“A 3 months moratorium be given for reembursement of trader moni, and other government interventions with immediate effect”
“The conditional cash transfer for two months shall be provided immediatly.”
President Buhari said the government will support response and recovery efforts; as we gladly receive donations from private individuals and organisations.
I seek your support… from all of us and ask that donations to fight the course be channeled in one purse for effective application says President Buhari.
He also asked for strict compliance to the guidelines against covid 19 while thanking health workers in the front lines of the fight against the virus who he referred to as true heroes.
