House of Representatives has asked the federal government to order partial reopening of schools.
The House Committee on Basic Education had on Friday asked the FG to reverse its suspension of the reopening of schools.
During Tuesday’s plenary, Nnolim Nnaji, a member of the House of Representatives moved a motion calling for schools to be reopened. The motion was unanimously adopted by other members of the House.
Recall that Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba had said secondary schools pupils will resume to write their West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) from the 4th of August to the 5th of September.
Adamu Adamu, Minister of Education came out to say the decision has been reversed few days later, shortly after a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting. The FG said:
“the reason for the decision is because schools are not prepared to resume yet with some basic amenities to ease the battle against COVID-19 yet to be available in schools”.
Schools have remained closed since March, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
