The death toll from the coronavirus has risen to 908 after a total of 97 people died on Sunday.
Sunday was reported to be the deadliest day ever since the outbreak of the disease in the central Chinese city of Wuhan.
According to the BBC a total of 40,171 people are currently infected while 187,518 are under observation.
While only two of the 908 deaths reported have been outside mainland China, the current death toll topples the 774 deaths recorded in early 2000 during the outbreak of the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).
Coronavirus has been confirmed in Singapore, UK, Malaysia, Taiwan, Spain, Vietnam, Germany, UAE, France, Japan.
Other countries are Thailand, Canada, Australia, Italy, Russia, Sweden, Finland, Cambodia, and the United States.
In January earlier in the year, the World Health Organisation declared coronavirus a Public Health Emergency of International Concern to reduce the global health risk.
Liu Wenliang a Chinese ophthalmologist who informed authorities about the disease, was confirmed dead last week after contracting the virus while treating an infected patient.
Days ago, a Chinese newborn tested positive to coronavirus, just 30 hours after birth, the youngest case recorded so far. The baby was born on 2 February in Wuhan, the epicentre of the virus.
Although the baby’s mother tested positive before she gave birth, but it was not clear how the baby contracted the virus.
State media outlet Xinhua reported that the baby is in a stable condition and under observation.
