China’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Cresi has announced that China will donate 500,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine to Pakistan.
This is due to the surge in coronavirus cases in Pakistan to 527,146, killing more than 11,000 people since the virus was first detected in February last year.
“Pakistan appreciates the 500,000 vaccines given by China,” Foreign Minister Cresi tweeted.
This news follows similar announcements from other countries in the region. The Philippines, Cambodia and Myanmar have all announced that they will receive vaccine donations from Beijing.

“China guarantees that the first shipment of 500,000 shipments will be free and will arrive by the end of January,” Mr. Cresi told reporters earlier.
Beijing also promised to send another million doses by the end of February, adding that Pakistan has approved urgent use and approval of the SinoPharm vaccine.
Over the years, China has paid much attention to funding the construction of huge development projects, roads, power plants and strategic ports in Pakistan.
Beijing has also recently participated in a vaccine trial using one of its closest allies, Islamabad, despite the confirmation of the country’s history in the vaccination campaign.
