World Trade Organization, WTO, Director General appointment Candidate and also former minister of finance in Nigeria, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has visited Nigeria’s Aso Rock for a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.
Mrs Okonjo-Iweala was led to the meeting on Monday by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Niyi Adebayo; Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zubair Dada and the Minister of State, Industry Trade and Investment Maryam Katagun.
The World Trade Organisation will name its first female head after Okonjo-Iweala made the final shortlist alongside South Korean trade minister Yoo Myung-hee.
Much of Okonjo-Iweala’s career was spent as an economist at the World Bank. She eventually rose to the position of managing director, essentially second in command at the institution.
She is currently chair of the board of the international vaccines alliance, Gavi and is also on Twitter’s board of directors.
