President Bola Tinubu is seeking approval from the Senate for Nigeria’s military intervention in Niger.

In the letter read at plenary by the Senate president, Godswill Akpabio, the president demanded a total blockade of the sea and air routes to the country following the military coup.
President Bola Tinubu had sent a high-powered delegation to the country to meet with the coup leaders, on Thursday for a peace talk
The delegation led by General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd) only met with representatives of the junta.
However, efforts to resolve the ongoing impasse failed.
Subsequently, Niger severed ties with Nigeria, Togo, France, its coloniser, and the United States.

Pressure continues to mount on the military junta from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to restore democratic order to the country.
Beyond the West African region, members of the international community have also vehemently opposed the new military government in the country.
However, the junta, led by General Abdourahmane Tiani, has remained unperturbed, threatening a brutal response to any aggression against its territory.
