A three-storey building housing a school, on Saturday collapsed in Ejigbo area of Lagos state.
The building which collapsed at about 8:15am is a part of a conjoined (twin) three storey building each, according to Nosa Okunbor, spokesperson of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
So far, there are no reports of casualties recorded, as the school was closed down due to the covid-19 pandemic.
According to eyewitnesses’ account, the privately-owned building belonging to Excel College had previously shown signs of distress and the school was planning to renovate/refortify the structure before the collapse.
It was gathered that the three-storey building had two wings conjoined buildings. Unfortunately the collapsed wing, had seriously affected the adjourning wing, as visible cracks could be seen on the walls, pillars and decking.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency LASEMA, confirmed the development in a tweet, saying responders to the incident scene were LASEMA, Police (Ejigbo Division) and other emergency responders to ensure the safety of students.
“Upon arrival at the incident scene, it was observed that a 3-Storey building (Excel College) had collapsed. Distress calls established that the building collapsed 8:15am,” LASEMA tweeted.
“The three storey building has two wings conjoined, the wing that collapsed has seriously affected the second wing as visible cracks can be seen on the walls, pillars and decking.
“Fortunately, nobody was trapped, no injuries and no fatality has been recorded.
“Responders to the incident scene are LASEMA, LASBCA, Police (Ejigbo Division).”
