IPOB Orders Sit-At-Home In South-East Nigeria Every Monday Till Nnamdi Kanu Regains Freedom, Threatens Violators. The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced a total lockdown of social and economic activities in the country’s South-East region every Monday beginning August 9.

The sit at the home protest will be held weekly, according to the group, to demand the release of its incarcerated leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) for a month.
This information was revealed by the separatist group’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, in a statement made available to journalists on Friday.
The group referred to the planned weekly protest as “ghost Monday” in a statement titled “IPOB Declares Indefinite Sit-At-Home Every Monday From August 9, 2021, Until Nnamdi Kanu Is Released.”

“We, the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), ably led by our great leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, wish to announce to all Biafra citizens, friends of Biafra, and lovers of Biafra freedom and independence that IPOB leadership has declared every Monday ‘a ghost Monday.’”
“From that day forward, Biafra land will be on lockdown every Monday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. until our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who was kidnapped in Kenya and detained by the Nigerian federal government, is released.
“We wish to state in full detail the upcoming ghost Mondays every week; our people must understand that it was designed to show the world how serious we are about this fight for Biafra freedom and independence; everyone must adhere to this clarion call put in place by the leadership of IPOB, and it would be good for everyone to know that IPOB will not relent until Biafra is fully realised.”

The secessionist group led by Nnamdi Kanu allegedly blamed DSS operatives for torturing its leader, adding that they plan to kill him.
The group reiterated in the statement that anyone who handed Kanu over to the Nigerian government would be held accountable if the separatist leader suffered any harm. “The DSS can keep our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, incommunicado without access to him, and we have observed that DSS operatives are torturing our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to death, which is why they don’t want anyone to see his state of health in the DSS facility,” he said.
“The DSS should be aware that if anything happens to him, we will confirm what IPOB is made of, and they will realise that we are ready for this freedom. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, our leader, is not a criminal and has the right to visit them in prison.

“This is a call for Biafran leaders and politicians, especially those whose names have been mentioned as being involved in his kidnapping and rendition to Nigeria, to prepare to never return to Biafraland because it will not accommodate us together if anything happens to our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. “No one should mistake our silence for cowardice. According to our intelligence, Nnamdi Kanu is undergoing severe torture and humiliation as a result of his refusal to accept all offers made to him,” the statement reads in part.
While the group demanded that the Nigerian government allow Kanu’s lawyers access to him and allow him to sign the British Consular documents that would aid him, it also boasted that it would paralyse the country’s economy until Kanu’s release.
